Unit Awareness Campaign
As part of the British Beer & Pub Association’s contribution to the Government’s ‘Alcohol Responsibility Deal’, the BBPA has developed a Customer Unit Awareness Campaign for the on-trade, in partnership with Drinkaware. A number of member companies also signed up to support the campaign as part of their own individual commitments to the Responsibility Deal.
It is very positive that levels of harmful drinking have declined, but it is important that consumers fully understand the unit content of what they are drinking. A better understanding of unit content allows people to moderate their drinking accordingly and consume alcohol within the recommended guidelines. The materials we’ve created as part of this campaign highlight the unit content of popular drinks consumed in pubs and bars, alongside guidance on ‘low-risk drinking’ in a clear and eye-catching format.
There are a range of ways in which companies and licensees can support the campaign to help consumers better understand the unit content of popular drinks. Anyone can download the poster artwork and other supporting materials. Hi-Res images of these can be downloaded free of charge below.
A summary image (“lock up”) of the key unit awareness messages can also be found below can be used on existing company materials and point-of-sale. We can also supply artwork for tent cards and beer mats which can be downloaded from the BBPA website below.
Some further suggestions of ways to support the campaign include:
- Distribution of BBPA Unit Awareness materials to pubs and encourage licensees to display them.
- Ensure unit awareness graphics are prominently displayed on company websites. This can include corporate websites, partner facing websites and individual pub web pages.
- Include unit awareness graphics in company branded materials and point-of-sale e.g. on menus, posters and promotional materials.
- Distribution of information on responsible drinking and unit awareness.
- Distribution of branded glassware or unit marked pre-packaged drinks.
